CORTLANDVILLE — Firefighters spent much of Saturday afternoon on the scene of a house fire along Route 13 in Cortlandville, across from the town’s fire station.

Cortlandville firefighters say a vacant home across from their headquarters on Route 13 caught on fire before 1 p.m.

Firefighters say because the home had been vacant for years, they decided to let the fire burn out, instead of putting it out. They say the decision was based on firefighter and public safety.

There were no reports of injuries.

Crews were on scene for about 5 p.m. A portion of Route 13 was closed during that time.

Firefighters from Dryden and Homer assisted on scene.
