As the March 31st deadline looms for operators of the Cayuga Power Plant in Lansing and NYSEG to come up with a repowering plan with natural gas, plant operators are asking for another 8 month extension.

The two sides have been unable to come to an agreement following 5 deadline extensions approved by the Public Service Commission.

Chris Amato with Earthjustice, an environmental advocacy group which has filed suit to obtain unredacted documents about the refiring proposal, believes the PSC is insisting on an agreement between the two sides.

Amato believes the best option would be to upgrade transmission lines.

Amato says ratepayers are being saddled with the costs to keep the coal-fired plant running.
