Seneca Lake LPG project gets county backing

Schuyler County lawmakers are now on the record in support of a facility that would store liquid petroleum gas along Seneca Lake.

By a 5 to 3 vote, lawmakers agreed Monday to ask the state to finish its review of the project, and to give final approvals for it.

About 200 people attended last night’s meeting, with dozens others outside because of capacity issues inside the legislative chambers in Watkins Glen.

Groups have opposed the project, saying there are environmental and safety concerns that have not been addressed.

“To me if the DEC takes over 5 years, (and) cannot figure it out, it means that there is huge issues that are at hand here that are very difficult to decide one way or another, I just, I mean the bottom line is without the facility the issues don’t exist,” Schuyler County resident Johnno Potter told WENY-TV.
