WILTON, N.Y. (AP) — New York State Police say a trooper has been taken to a hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle near a state police station.

Maj. William Keeler says the accident occurred around 6 a.m. Wednesday on Ballard Road in the Saratoga County town of Wilton, 35 miles north of Albany.

Trooper Timothy Pratt had pulled his patrol vehicle over at the entrance to the station to check out a tractor-trailer parked in the median. Keeler says the 30-year veteran was struck by a vehicle when he stepped out of his cruiser.
