Business owners in Ithaca are starting to pool their money together to put up a reward for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect in a string of break-ins this summer.
Vanessa Isaacs is a co-owner of Ithaca To Go. She says eight or nine businesses have come together to put up a one-thousand dollar reward.
Earlier this month, a suspect was captured on video breaking into their offices on Taber Street.
She says multiple break-ins have put them on edge.
“We’re taking extra precautions with all the employees,” Issacs said. “We’re not leaving alone; we’re leaving together. We’re keeping the lights on in the office. We’re always strategizing to try and make sure that we’re not targeted again.”
Isaacs says they’ve reached out to Ithaca Police to talk with them about the reward, but haven’t heard back from investigators.
The businesses have also put together a Facebook page, titled Ithaca Business Burglaries, to try and share information about any break-ins or attempts in the city.
