CORTLAND, NY (WHCU) — A Cortland woman is getting credit for preventing a fire from spreading.

Firefighters responded to a house fire around 10 o’clock Wednesday morning on Banks Street. The resident told Deputy Chief Derek Reynolds her bed was on fire. Reynolds says the woman immediately shut the door, depriving the fire of oxygen and protecting the house from further damage.

Flames were quickly extinguished. The cause remains under investigation. There were no injuries reported.
