Cortland man arrested for allegedly choking woman in front of child

CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – A man is accused of choking a woman in front of her child in the City of Cortland.

Cortland Police officers were called to Maple Avenue just after 12:30 a.m. on Thursday for a reported physical domestic dispute. Police say Calvin Ridley, 37, attacked a woman in front of her 3-year-old. The 45-year-old woman was transported to Upstate Medical Hospital for her injuries.

Ridley was charged with felony assault, felony strangulation, misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child, and misdemeanor criminal mischief. Ridley was sent to Cortland County Jail on $5,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 28.
