CORTLANDVILLE — An Elmira man lead Cortland County Sheriff’s officers on a high-speed chase through several towns earlier this week.

Just after noon Wednesday officers say they spotted a car driving along Ridge Road in Cortlandville with no license plates. When they tried to pull the car over, the driver took off and tried to outrun them.

Officers say they chased the car through Cortlandville, Solon, and Freetown, and at one point the car drove through a yard to try to lose them. In the end, the driver, who police identified as 28-year-old James MacMillan, stopped the car and fled on foot.

Police say MacMillan turned himself in the next day. He’s charged with nearly 50 misdemeanors and traffic violations, and is currently in the Cortland County Jail.

MacMillan has had run-ins with the law before. He was arrested several months ago for leading police on another high-speed chase through Chemung and Schuyler Counties.
