LANSING, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) has added property to a reserve in Tompkins County.

FLLT recently purchased 7.5 acres off of Salmon Creek Road in the Town of Lansing. The parcel is primarily made up of woodlands with some permanent and seasonal streams that empty into Salmon Creek, a tributary to Cayuga Lake. The conservation organization funded the purchase with its Finger Lakes Forever capital campaign and the estate of Margaret Bald.

The addition will be added to the Land Trust’s Salmon Creek Bird Sanctuary, which was established in 1988 with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The now 40-acre sanctuary protects stream and forest habitat in a National Audobon Society-designated Important Bird Area.
