Former Cornell men’s lacrosse coach Ben DeLuca has taken a position as a volunteer assistant at Duke University.

DeLuca will work with the team’s defensive unit, according to a statement from the Duke Athletic Department.

DeLuca had a 37-11 record during his time leading Cornell, including a 16-2 mark in Ivy League competition.

Back in November, DeLuca was let go by Cornell, months after he led the Big Red to a Final Four appearance against Duke.

At the time, the university released a statement saying that a change was needed.

“This was a difficult decision, but our students are our first priority and there is no doubt now that new leadership is required,” said Andy Noel, the school’s Director of Athletics.

One of DeLuca’s top players last year, Rob Pannell, tweeted congrats to his former coach.

“Big Congrats to Coach Ben DeLuca on joining @Duke_MLAX down in Durham, making an already talented Duke team that much more dangerous!,” he tweeted late Wednesday.
