Increase in phone scams reported in Owego

OWEGO, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Owego Police Department is warning the public about a new phone scam that has been reported in the area.

The caller identifies themself as Detective Kennedy and the caller ID will show it’s the Owego Police Department. The scammer says they’re investigating the purchase of ingredients used to manufacture drugs. They will ask about your credit card information, telling you there will be consequences if you don’t pay. Owego PD reminds you that law enforcement will never ask for money through phone calls or email.

Call your local law enforcement agency if you receive a call like this.
