Ithaca Police: Phone scams still prevalent

Ithaca Police say they continue to receive complaints of several phone scams in the area.

One scam involves a caller claiming to be from the IRS saying that a federal complaint has been filed against them. The scammer says the problem can be taken care of by making a credit card payment.

Another more prevalent scam involves a person placing a fake job ad on Craigslist. After the person agrees to take the job, the scammer tells them to send a payment immediately due to a mix-up in personnel, or else risk losing the job.

Ithaca Police ask anyone who has been presented with these offers to contact them at (607) 272-3245.
