Three new officers have been sworn-in to the Ithaca Police Department’s ranks.

The officers, Israel Cosgrove, Robert Watkins, and Justin Baldessare, were sworn-in Monday during a ceremony at the city’s police headquarters on Clinton Street.

Two of the new officers come with backgrounds in the military, and all three have ties to the Ithaca area.

In addition to the new members of the force, last month, top officials in the city’s police department asked city officials to fund two more positions.

Police Chief John Barber said at the time that another two officers could help the department carry out more proactive enforcement efforts.
