ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Local climate advocates are celebrating new legislation.

On Friday, Governor Hochul signed a law to save Ithaca Carshare. The service was recently put on pause due to insurance problems. Assemblymember Anna Kelles says the legislation will help curb greenhouse gas emissions.

“We know for every carshare that’s on the road, it takes 15 private cars off the road, for every single one,” she says. “That is huge.”

Ithaca Mayor Laura Lewis adds the legislation will make an “enormous difference.”

Ithaca Carshare plans to resume service in March.
