ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Traffic delays are expected in Downtown Ithaca.

Crews will begin the first phase of a rooftop renovation project at the Tompkins County Public Library on Thursday. The 200 block of South Cayuga Street is partially closed to accommodate a crane needed for the work. The northbound lane will be closed to vehicles and bicycles between the Cayuga Street Parking Garage driveway and the intersection at East Green Street. The southbound lane will remain open.

Detours for traffic and pedestrians are in place. Officials say to avoid the area if possible. Phase one finishes Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Phase two will commence on Monday at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to wrap up on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
