CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) — Cortland County officials are considering extending the local sales tax.

The county currently taxes shoppers an additional one percent, on top of the three percent from the state. The local tax ends in November; officials say the expiration  would cause a fiscal hardship and a possible loss of services.

The county might request a two-year extension, like Tompkins County did earlier in April.
