Ithaca Fire officials say a man fell about 60 feet into the Cascadilla Gorge Wednesday, suffering multiple injuries along the way.

A call came in just before 5 p.m. Wednesday from someone who found the man, who fire department officials only described as a “college-age male”.

They say it appears the man fell into the gorge from an edge above, and was found in an area under the Stewart Avenue bridge.  He suffered multiple lacerations, and was experiencing head and back pain. The man was semi-conscious when he was found, according to department officials.

It took about an hour to stabilize the man and get him out of the gorge. He was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital, but there’s no word on his condition as of Thursday morning.

The Cornell University Police Department is investigating the incident, including the events that led up to the fall.
