ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – A traffic pattern in the Town of Ithaca will not change.
Forest Home residents have been asking the Town of Ithaca, Tompkins County, and Cornell University for the intersection of Cradit Farm Drive and Pleasant Grove Road to be changed to divert travelers away from the neighborhood’s narrow roadways and one-lane bridges. They say the current amount of traffic is dangerous to children and pedestrians.
A study conducted in May and June has concluded that the current traffic pattern is preferred by motorists. Cornell originally agreed to help funnel traffic away from Forest Home as part of its North Campus Residential Expansion Project. Officials say no redesign options would have that desired effect.
Cornell University says they plan to design new signage to encourage drivers to turn onto Cradit Farm Drive rather than continue on Pleasant Grove Road into Forest Home. It has not yet been presented and would require town approval. Town officials have additionally authorized a study of truck traffic signage in the area to see if any changes to current signage could help reduce truck traffic.
