ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — New flood maps could cause Ithaca home values to sink.

The proposed maps by FEMA expand the coverage of flood risk. This would raise insurance costs for home owners.

Acting Mayor Laura Lewis says there’s concern.

Lewis says the maps had not been updated since 1981.

She says the proposed maps will not be finalized until 2024, at the earliest.
