Three dead, one in critical condition after Newark Valley crash

UPDATE, 1:00 P.M. Authorities say three people are dead after a crash in Newark Valley.

The collision happened Wednesday morning on State Route 38. The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office says an 18-year-old man struck four people walking along the road.

25-year-old Kurtis Acker, 66-year-old John Stephens, and 52-year-old Doreen Wood were killed. A 27-year-old woman remains in critical condition. All of the victims are from Newark Valley.

The crash remains under investigation.


UPDATE, 5:00 A.M. Reports say one person is dead after a vehicle hit several pedestrians Wednesday in Newark Valley.

State Route 38 was reopened around 7:30 last evening. Authorities have not disclosed how many people were injured or the identities of anyone involved. The investigation continues.


NEWARK VALLEY, N.Y. (WHCU) – Authorities in Tioga County are investigating a motor vehicle crash.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office says multiple pedestrians were struck by a vehicle on State Route 38 near Brown Road in the Town of Newark Valley earlier today. Route 38 closed between Wilson Creek Road and Brown Road just before noon and will remain closed until further notice.

Authorities say more details will be released as they become available.
