APALACHIN, NY (607NewsNow) – A historic Tioga County business is up for sale.

The Ransom Steele Tavern in Apalachin, thought to have first opened in 1831, is listed at $699,000 on the commercial real estate website loopnet.com. The asking price is down from the previous listing of $875,000.

The latest iteration of the building, which has worn many hats over the years, opened in 2016 and became a hub for live music and community events. It closed last month. The structure previously was Apalachin’s first post office, the first town building with electricity, and served as the Barnaby Academy during the Civil War.

A prospective buyer is reportedly interested in continuing the business as is, but there has been no word of an impending sale.
