Auburn couple indicted on animal abuse charges

AUBURN, NY (607NewsNow) – Two people have been indicted for alleged animal abuse in Cayuga County.

The District Attorney’s Office says 45-year-old Kenneth Sulgar and 50-year-old Laura Hendrickson, of Auburn, deprived their dog of necessary food and confined it to a cage from November 2023 to March 2025.

The pair was arrested in April after the Auburn Police Department received a complaint two weeks prior. The couple’s treatment left the animal permanently disfigured, with numerous medical issues. The pair is additionally accused of abandoning the dog and another for 10 days in cages without food and water while their residence was condemned.

Sulgar and Hendrickson face up to 2 years in prison on charges of felony aggravated cruelty to animals. Each is additionally facing five misdemeanors, including two counts of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals, two counts of abandonment of animals, and failure to provide proper food and drink to an impounded animal.
