AUBURN, NY (607NewsNow) – A canine companion is safe after a rescue in Auburn.

On July 20, firefighters were called to Washington Street around 8 a.m. for a dog that was trapped under a driveway.

Officials say the dachshund burrowed its way into a woodchuck hole and could not get out. Crews were able to access the hole through a crawl space under the house and recover the pup from approximately six feet under the driveway.

According to the Auburn Fire Department, the dog is doing well with his family.
