AURORA, NY (607NewsNow) – No injuries and major environmental impact avoided in a fire near Aurora.

On July 27, members of the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) responded to Cayuga Lake for a boat fire.

The Union Springs Fire Department and Cayuga Fire Department assisted.

When crews arrived, the water rescue team confirmed there were no victims in the water and began fighting the blaze. The fire was contained to the boat.

According to the AVFD, the vessel ultimately sank in roughly 100 feet of water, and minimal fuel was released into the lake.
