ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Students in Ithaca are keeping warm.

With frigid temperatures overnight, the Ithaca City School District has placed cold weather procedures into effect through the end of February.

  • Bus drivers will give students extra time to get to the bus. Students who can see the bus stop from their house can stay inside until they see the bus approaching.
  • Drivers must make all stops even if students who are usually waiting at the road are not out.

It gives students extra time to catch the bus and adds stops for secondary school students who typically walk.

  • Ithaca High School and Boynton buses will make three additional downtown stops at approximately 8:40 a.m.:
    • Tompkins County Library (Rt. 68)
    • Southside Community Center (Rt. 72)
    • 3rd Street and Hancock Street (Rt. 2)
  • DeWitt buses will make two additional stops at approximately 8:35 a.m.:
    • Salem Drive and Birchwood Drive (Rt. 57)
    • Winston Court and the Walkway (Rt. 57)

Overnight and early morning temps the next few nights are in the single digits. The district says buses may be “two to three minutes behind” during these cold mornings.
