APALACHIN, NY (607NewsNow) – From the Southern Tier to space, the Town of Owego is honoring a local history maker.

Last week, a commemorative sign was installed in Apalachin, recognizing the childhood home of astronaut and Owego Free Academy graduate Doug Hurley.

The retired U.S. Marine Colonel piloted NASA’s final space shuttle flight, commanded the first crewed commercial orbital spacecraft – SpaceX’s Dragon Demo-2, and is the 29th recipient of the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.

According to WBNG, the marker is at the corner of Route 434 and Forest Hill Road.
