Cornell grad student dies Sunday in Ithaca

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – The Big Red community is mourning the loss of a graduate student.

On October 26, Emily Ryu, a fifth-year graduate student in the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science (CIS), passed away in her off-campus residence.

According to the Cornell Daily Sun, Ryu, of North Carolina, graduated from Princeton with a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry in 2021 and began her Ph.D. in computer science at Cornell later that year. Ryu was pursuing postdoctoral work.

The University held support meetings for faculty on Monday and Tuesday. The cause of death was not released.
