ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — The Cornell community is mourning a loss.

Former standout athlete Robert “Rip” Haley passed away on July 28. He was 97.

Haley played football and baseball at Cornell in the late 1940s. According to Cornell Athletics, Haley caught 11 interceptions in his Big Red football career. He also served as captain of the baseball team during his senior season.

Cornell Athletics Director Dr. Nicki Moore said Haley’s loyalty to the university was “unwavering.” In 1981, Haley was inducted into the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame.
