ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Cornell is continuing to construct its field hockey complex.

The university has completed a $4 million fundraising campaign for Phase 2 of the project. Construction will include a team clubhouse and an indoor training facility.

Phase 1 saw the construction of an artificial turf field, team dugouts, and a press box. Phase 2 is expected to be completed in summer 2027.

Prior to its approval from the Town of Ithaca Planning Board, the artificial turf field received criticism from environmental advocates. Cornell describes the field as water-based, PFAS-free, and recyclable.

“This complex sets a new standard among our peers and underscores our aspiration to provide the very best opportunities for our student-athletes to pursue their ambitious goals,” Cornell Athletics Director Dr. Nicki Moore said. “I have been especially inspired by our alumnae who stepped up in a very big way, demonstrating their commitment to lift up the next generation of women student-athletes and leaders.”

The university said lead gifts from alumnae Marsha Dodson, Karin Bain Kukral, and Rebecca Quinn Morgan will help build the indoor training facility.
