CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — Cortland County’s undersheriff is an FBI graduate.

Sheriff Mark Helms says Undersheriff Chad Burhans has graduated from the FBI National Academy in their 295th session on Sept. 4 in Quantico, VA. Burhans becomes the 6th member of the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office to complete the 10-week program, which offers training in leadership and communication.

“I was extremely happy for the opportunity for Undersheriff Burhans to attend this prestige’s training,” Helms said. The Undersheriff is an excellent example of the type of officers I have here at the Sheriff’s Office. I’m proud what he’s been able to accomplish and look forward to the future with him at my side.”

Burhans joined the department in 2007 and was appointed undersheriff in 2023.
