CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — A new union contract in Cortland is waiting for approval.

The Common Council has twice delayed a vote on accepting an updated deal for workers at the city’s wastewater treatment plant. Mayor Scott Steve says it comes down to dollars and cents.

In January, Clarence Sheger was hired as the city’s new finance director. Since then, Mayor Steve says Sheger has been looking at the 2026 budget line-by-line after the discovery of some errors, which has delayed a vote on the new contract.

Votes in January and February were both tabled. Mayor Steve says the Common Council is slated to vote on the new 4-year contract in March.
