Cortland woman charged with apartment arson

CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — A Cortland woman faces charges after a fire.

61-year-old Jacqueline Rood is accused of intentionally setting a fire Sunday inside an apartment building on Main St.

According to the Cortland Police Department, firefighters “located the source of the smoke and determined the fire had originated in the ceiling area below Apartment #2. During the investigation, a resident of Apartment #3, Jacqueline Rood, admitted to intentionally starting the fire. According to the investigation, Rood reportedly pushed a burning cloth through a drop ceiling tile, in an attempt to start a fire in the upstairs apartment above her.”

There were no reported injuries. Rood was charged with felony arson and criminal mischief.
