ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Forecasters are concerned about wildfires.

A combination of 20-to-30-mile-an-hour wind gusts and humidity between 20 and 35 percent means an elevated risk of wildfire across the Southern Tier. The statewide ban on outdoor brush burning remains in effect. No burn permits are being issued.

The New York State DEC says the mandatory burn ban will be lifted in mid-May.
