CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) – A $7.2 million renovation is set to begin at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center (GCMC).
Hospital officials say internal work is underway, but the public-facing portion of the project will begin on September 23, 2024. Work will happen in phases to minimize the impact on patients and visitors, though the emergency department will remain open during renovations. Signage will be used for pedestrians to navigate the work area.
Changes are coming to the ambulance bay, patient rooms, waiting room and triage, and the behavioral health space.
RENOVATION DETAILS
- Ambulance Bay – redesigned with the addition of a permanent decontamination area and adjoining rooms
- Patient Rooms – increasing the number of rooms from 14 to 23, all new and existing rooms to be private
- Waiting Room and Triage – redesigned for comfort and flow, addition of “Nurse First” triage model to reduce wait times
- Behavioral Health Space – three new patient rooms, activity room for parent or counselor meetings, separate nurses station

“The Emergency Department is the face of any hospital,” said GCMC President Jennifer Yartym. “We are committed to upgrading and elevating the look and feel of our facility to meet the high level of care being offered by our teams inside.”

The improvement project will take an estimated year and a half to complete.
