ETNA, NY (607NewsNow) – The Etna Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) is closing.

On November 18, Etna Fire announced that, after a year of operating without a contract with the Town of Dryden, the two sides have failed to reach an agreement.

According to Etna Fire, the town has contacted the NYS Attorney General’s Office as a result, and EVFD will be dissolved. The volunteer-run company has been operating in Etna for over 50 years.

In a Facebook post, the group thanked the community for its support over the years, and called it an honor and a privilege to serve.
