CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — The former mayor of Cortland wants a return to City Hall.

Brian Tobin has announced a run in the First Ward, telling 607 News Now he’s concerned about the city’s finances. Wednesday, Oct. 1 on Ithaca’s Morning News, Tobin cited a parking project as one fiscal concern.

Tobin points to the city’s 2023 audit as another concern.

Tobin previously served on the Common Council before becoming mayor, an office he held from 2012-2021. In June, Dana Merkur was appointed as the Ward 1 alderperson following the resignation of Wayne Schutt. Merkur will run as a Republican in November’s special election to retain the seat through the end of 2027.
