ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Cornell is mourning the loss of a hockey legend.
Ken Dryden died of cancer on Sept. 5. He was 78.
The Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender led the Big Red to a national championship in 1967. He later won six Stanely Cups with the Montreal Canadiens.
Former Cornell men’s hockey coach Mike Schafer said Dryden was “intelligent, classy, articulate, kind, athletic, and thoughtful.” The Montreal Gazette described Dryden as a “towering figure in the crease and a principled gentleman off the ice.”
According to Cornell Athletics, the Dryden family has requested privacy. Donations can be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre or the Concussion Legacy Foundation in honor of the late goaltender.
