Health Department: Rabid bat discovered at Upper Buttermilk Falls State Park in Ithaca

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Tompkins County is issuing a health alert.

On May 31, a bat was found near the Lake Treman Trail at Upper Buttermilk Falls State Park in Ithaca.

Today, testing confirmed that the bat was rabid. There are no current reports of human contact. However, officials say the bat was tampered with by another animal, most likely a dog.

If you, your pets, or someone you know has had contact with a bat, call the Tompkins County Whole Health Department’s (TCWH) Environmental Health Division at (607) 274-6688.
