NEW YORK (607NewsNow) — New York Governor Kathy Hochul is looking back on the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Hochul is thanking workers, first responders, and fans who made the tournament an “unforgettable success.” She said the opening weeks of the tournament generated more than $2 billion for New York’s economy.

“The World Cup was everywhere,” Hochul said on X. “Restaurants were packed, small businesses were busy, and watch parties brought communities together across the state.”

Several games, including the final, were held just across the state line at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Spain won the final 1-0 over Argentina.

“Congratulations to Spain,” Hochul said on X. “And to the World Cup – until next time!”
