LANSING, NY (607NewsNow) — Flock Safety cameras in Tompkins County are getting a lot of flak from the public over privacy concerns.

Sheriff Derek Osborne tells 607 News Now he’s listening to points raised by residents.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office uses Flock Safety to detect gun shots and read license plates, which Osborne says is helpful to investigators. The Ithaca Police Department and other law enforcement agencies in the county also use Flock, Osborne said.

Nevertheless, the sheriff tells us he acknowledges the concerns.

Data is stored at the Sheriff’s office.
