ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Ithaca College’s track is finished.

On October 25, President La Jerne Terry Cornish and other school officials cut the ribbon at a dedication ceremony for the brand-new Egan Family Track & Field Complex.

The project, which broke ground earlier this year, was funded by donations from the class of ’84’s Mike and Tracy Egan. The 8-lane track and jumping event runways are on the west side of campus, where football and other sports teams have practiced in recent years. A small field behind Emerson Hall was additionally repurposed for throwing events.

According to the college, the gift came from a chance encounter at a 2022 NCAA playoffs football game, where Mike Egan approached Ithaca College Associate Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Susan Bassett, who has since retired, about what would happen to the IC’s track in the football stadium project.

Bassett, a class of ’79 graduate, had a press box overlooking the track dedicated in her name during IC Homecoming weekend.

Next spring, Ithaca College will once again host intercollegiate outdoor track events.
