ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Ithaca is encouraging active use of properties.

A proposed change to the city code would require annual inspections of empty buildings. Ithaca is also considering creating a vacant building registry.

City officials said a similar, successful model is already in place in Auburn.

The Ithaca Common Council will discuss the proposal tonight at 6 p.m. at Ithaca City Hall.
