ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Trash tag prices in Ithaca are rising in January.

Starting on New Year’s Day, the city says the prices will increase to $6 for a tag and $36 for a sheet. “The change reflects rising costs of performing waste collection, transportation, and disposal, and is part of the City’s ongoing effort to maintain high-quality sanitation services for residents,” according to a statement.

Officials say the bump addresses sharp increases in operational expenses and county tipping fees, which have risen 29% since 2018.

The current rates are $5 for a tag and $30 per sheet.
