ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Ithaca is once again searching for its next controller.

On November 18, the city officially launched the most current search for the de facto chief financial officer, after several recent unsuccessful attempts.

The city seeks a “dynamic and experienced financial leader” to serve in the critical role, which oversees all financial operations, including budgeting, auditing, and reporting. The ideal candidate is described as someone who will bring proven expertise in public finance or accounting to the role, as well as strong leadership skills, and a commitment to both integrity and innovation.

“I am excited to begin a new search for this critical position in our leadership team,” said Mayor Robert Cantelmo. “We are launching this search to hire a controller who brings rigor, steadiness, and a commitment to transparent financial stewardship. This role is too important to get anything less than the right fit.”

Ithaca has been without a permanent City Controller since the retirement of Steve Thayer in 2023.

Applications will be accepted through January 16 on the City of Ithaca Civil Service Employment Portal.
