ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A traffic stop leads to more charges for an Ithaca man.

On April 12, Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies on patrol observed Thomas Edwards Jr. driving a green 2005 Subaru Legacy in the city.

It was known that the 41-year-old had an outstanding warrant issued by the Ithaca City Court for violating probation. Deputies pulled Edwards over in the 400 block of Hector Street, where they say he got out of the car and fled on foot.  After a brief foot chase, Edwards was taken into custody.

During a search, a substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine was found in the vehicle.

Edwards is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. He was arraigned on the violation of probation warrant and held in Tompkins County Jail.
