ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — The Town of Ithaca is looking to continue its deer management program.

On Dec. 8, the Ithaca Town Board voted to apply for a new deer damage permit. The permit would allow deer to be harvested in February and March of 2026.

The deer management program, which began several years ago, aims to reduce agricultural losses and car-deer collisions. Deer are killed with archery, crossbows, or firearms.

In 2025, 18 deer were harvested as part of the program. 10 deer were harvested in 2024.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation handles the distribution of deer damage permits.
