ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — An Ithaca school is offering new food options.

The Ithaca Waldorf School’s farm-to-table school lunch program is being led under chef Melissa Hoffman, who has extensive experience with herbal nutrition. Plant-forward meals will be on the menu daily beginning next week, with dairy and meat options on the side. Local farmers are supplying fresh produce, and the school will also serve vegetables from their own farm.

“We want our students to understand where their food comes from and to experience the difference that local, seasonal produce makes, both in flavor and in health,” School director Laura Hayes said. “By partnering with local farmers and cultivating food on our own land, we’re not only providing excellent meals but also teaching children about sustainability, community, and care for the earth.”

The school lunches are carefully constructed. “These meals are truly happiness on a plate,” Hayes added. “Prepared with love by our chef, harvested locally, and full of natural vitality, they bring vibrant colors to the table that make you smile.”

The school will launch the new menu on Monday, Sept. 8.

As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
