ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – You can declutter your home for a cause.

The YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County is collecting scrap metal to raise money in support of childcare and programs for the approaching school year.

The Scrap to Camp scrap metal drive runs through September 2.

You can donate metal items, including refrigerators, freezers, coolers, computers, and air conditioners, in the Teets and Sons dumpster located near the outdoor pavilion. It’s adjacent to the YMCA and behind the Italian restaurant Ciao off North Triphammer Road in the Village of Lansing.

Computer monitors and TVs are not accepted.

In related news, the YMCA is temporarily closed. Officials say the building is shut down through September 2 for yearly maintenance and upkeep.

At no extra charge, members can use facilities at the Cortland YMCA, Island Health in Community Corners, and the pool at the Taughannock Boulevard Island Health by showing their tag to staff.
