ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – The YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County is receiving state support.

On December 29, Governor Kathy Hochul announced $6.26 million in funding for the Ithaca Y through the NY SWIMS initiative, which provides matching capital grants to communities to improve swimming facilities.

“Through Governor Hochul’s leadership, the NY SWIMS program is investing millions of dollars to build and revitalize pools and swimming facilities across the state,” said Acting Commissioner of New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Kathy Moser. “This ongoing effort helps New Yorkers learn to swim and stay safe in and around the water.”

According to state officials, the money heading to Ithaca will be used for pool reconstruction, locker room upgrades, and the addition of a hydrotherapy spa.

Cortland’s Yaman Park also received funding through the SWIMS Initiative.
