LOCKE, NY (607NewsNow) – A Cayuga County man is headed to prison.

According to the Auburn Citizen, Michael Yaw has been sentenced to 5.5 years behind bars for crimes committed in his hometown of Locke last year.

Following a string of arrests last summer for violating an order of protection, the 63-year-old engaged in an armed 6-hour standoff with police on November 23, 2026.

Yaw met deputies with a long gun when they arrived before barricading himself inside with another person who was not permitted to leave. After hours of negotiation, he ultimately surrendered after a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Yaw previously pled guilty to menacing police officers and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies. He will additionally be subject to three years of post-release supervision when he gets out of prison.
